I met Samantha from Samantha Leigh Studios on a styled shoot earlier this year. It was at The Eastern in Detroit and it was amazing! I learned pretty fast she is an AMAZING Detroit wedding photographer, we’re practically neighbors, and we love shooting weddings.

The Eastern Styled Shoot was pretty awesome. Samantha did an amazing job at capturing the details so beautifully and of course all the vendors who contributed to the shoot. It was cool to see how she posed the models and how much time she spent arranging the flowers, invitations and details. I can’t wait to work with Samantha on a real wedding.

How did you get started as a wedding photographer?
I took a few photography classes in college and mostly started shooting families, seniors and kids. A friend of mine got in a bind and needed a wedding photographer two days before the wedding. I was terrified to say the least, but I jumped in and never looked back.
What is your approach to photographing weddings?
My goal is to show who my couples really are when they are together, so if someone were to look at their photos they would get a little glimpse into their relationship. For me it's not about copying stiff Pinterest photos, it's about documenting real moments they can look back on.
What is your favorite wedding memory?
Oooo this is a tough one there's so many good ones! I'd have to say when one of the brides and her dad's song cut to Thriller and they did the whole choreographed dance for their father-daughter dance!
What advice do you have for brides choosing vendors?
Meet with them in person and get to know them a little. Your vendors are your A-squad for your wedding day so you absolutely have to pick a team that has similar values, style and that you can trust. It's always a plus if they enjoy wine too!
Why do you love working with 97 Films?
Heck yes! Katie isn't one of those videographers with stiff, awkward posing that leaves you wondering "when is this part over so we can get to cocktail hour?" She manages to capture the big moments, as well as the quiet in between ones when no ones looking. 97 Films captures all of the things you want to remember from your wedding - not to mention they display them absolutely beautifully.
