Breanne Rochelle Photography // Detroit, Michigan Photographer

Updated: Mar 6, 2020

It's one thing to work with a photographer for many events. It's a whole other level when you get to be the one to film their wedding. And that's the story with me and Breanne Rochelle Photography, Detroit, Michigan Photographer.

We have worked with Breanne from Breanne Rochelle Photography, Detroit, Michigan Photographer a couple of times this past year. It's so fun working with someone you know and love. Especially traveling up north! Anna + Cory's wedding at The Inn at Bay Harbor in Petoskey, Michigan was a blast. We drove together for the bridal party photos. That was so much fun hopping out of the car at the winery, yacht club, and golf club!

We also rang in the New Year with Breanne and her husband Jason. It's so crazy to think that last April we filmed their wedding at Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township, Michigan and almost a year later we're celebrating 2019 with them while filming a wedding. WOW!! Two huge milestones in Breanne and Jason's lives and we get to celebrate with them!

One thing I will say about working with Breanne from is that she makes our job so easy. It makes the wedding day so fun knowing we're filming alongside friends. And when we're trying to get a shot of the bride and groom she'll either sense it or see it and want to ensure we get the footage we need. She always makes sure that she's not in our shot (which is super important, right!!!). Again...always a fun day with Breanne from Breanne Rochelle Photography, Detroit, Michigan Photographer!

How did you get started in wedding photography?

I think most photographers say "they always had a camera in their hand" and that was definitely true for me. I grew up always taking photos and asking for new digital cameras! In college I spent two summers studying abroad and I documented my time in Europe to the fullest. After college, I got a little more serious and invested in my first DSLR camera. I started teaching myself the technical aspects of photography online and became more interested in photographing people. On a whim I did an engagement session for a friend and they loved their photos so much that they asked me to do their wedding! I spent every spare second learning everything I could leading up to that first wedding. I'm so glad my friends believed in me and trusted me to capture that their day. They made me fall in love with documenting weddings and everything just kind of took off from there! I'm so fortunate to have worked with so many amazing couples!

What is your approach to photographing and documenting weddings?

I describe my approach as classic wedding photography for joyful couples in love. It's documentary and authentic. I really want to tell the story of each of my couples and let their personalities shine through! I love looking for and capturing candid moments! I think it's important to be organized and lead certain parts of the day, but also to document the day as it unfolds naturally.

What is your favorite wedding memory?

That's a tough one! I have so many! I think one of my favorite memories was from a Detroit wedding where the bride pulled me onto the dance floor and we danced together. It was such a sweet, fun moment! I also loved when a bridal party did a choreographed dance to "Crazy in Love" and surprised the entire wedding! The bride and bridesmaids were so talented and it was so awesome to watch!

What advice do you have for brides choosing vendors?

I have two questions that I think should be asked every time you choose a vendor.

First, do you love their work? This translates for any vendor. Do you love their styles they highlight? Do you love their approach? What about their work do you connect with? Do you feel confident in them?

Second, do you love them and their personality? I think it's so important to click with your vendors and make sure they're a good fit for you. Especially for vendors that spend your entire wedding day with you, like photographers, videographers, and planners! I think it's so important that you love their personalities!

Why do you love working with 97 Films?

I always love working with Katie's team. They are awesome to work with and so on top of it. I know it's going to be an extra fun wedding when 97 Films is there! Not only are they kind, fun individuals, but Katie and her team really care about their couples and they care about telling stories. I love their documentary approach for capturing weddings and how everything feels so genuine and authentic. Katie also filmed my wedding and I definitely cried the first time I saw my wedding trailer! She does such a good job of making you really feel the emotions of the day and I think that's what amazing storytelling does. Reliving your wedding through film is something very special. You need Katie!! :)
