South-Asian Hindu Wedding at The Henry Hotel

Updated: Mar 4, 2020

In a feast for the senses, Shreya + Parth beautifully expressed their love, tradition, and faith through a colorful Hindu wedding at The Henry Hotel. The meaningful ceremonies, filled with rich sights and sounds, were exciting to film because of the beauty in every detail. The wedding celebration at The Henry Hotel began with the Grah Shanti, a pre-wedding ritual to invite Lord Ganesha into the space to remove obstacles and welcome happiness and prosperity to the couple.

Shreya wore magenta and gold and performed the ceremony with her parents at her side. Her dress for Mehndi, the reception and the wedding ceremony were all designed by Anushree Reddy, and each one was spectacularly detailed and made the beautiful bride stand out with elegance and celebration. The wedding party dressed in traditional sari dresses and men’s formal dress, all in matching gold and emerald green.

The wedding ceremony and reception were a videographer’s dream come true. The dancing, the laughing, the love shared among family and friends fit perfectly into the magnificent scene that was set. Intricate white flower treatments hanging from the ceiling gave dramatic flair to the large ballroom. The up-lit curtains and carved panels, round lounging couches and over-sized dance floor accommodated the performances, the conversations, laughter and memories. Shreya and Parth happily presided over the festivities watching from their seat of honor after an intimate first dance.

The newly-imagined Henry Hotel in Dearborn Michigan was the perfect setting to accommodate the size and dramatic flair of Shreya and Parth’s colorful wedding. The catering, table decor and chairs were classic and elegant, fitting in perfectly with their overall look. Bellisario Florist created stunning floral arrangements for the reception, but with the ingenuity to not block the view of the festivities. All the still shots were captured by Richa Parekh Photography and together we ensured that every detail of Shreya and Parth’s dazzling day would be remembered forever. The colors, tradition, and beauty of their wedding celebration will be talked about and remembered with affection for years to come.

Below is our Q+A with the bride, Shreya.

How did you two meet?

[Taken from our wedding website] Parth and Shreya met at the University of Michigan while they were in undergrad. The first time we met was at a Halloween Party at Parth's apartment in 2012. Parth's first impression of Shreya was that she was cute. Shreya's first impression of Parth is that he was rude. Although they did not hit it off at first, they became good friends, and soon their friendship blossomed into love.

How did he/she propose?

[Taken from our wedding website] Parth proposed to Shreya by surprising her with a trip to Sedona, Arizona. He spent months finding her dream ring, hiring a photographer to capture the moment, and finding the perfect location (next to the wall of a canyon), but that day many things went wrong. Shreya decided to wear a dress and sandals on a pretty difficult hike, it started raining, and passerbys kept asking if they were taking engagement pictures before he had asked. Despite all the havoc, he finally was able to get to the perfect spot and ask her to marry him. She said yes.

What did you envision your wedding being prior to planning?

Prior to planning, we envisioned a destination wedding with no more than 10 people. We were quickly dispelled of that notion, and ended up having a big, traditional Indian wedding. In retrospect, the wedding we did have was perfect and we were so happy to be surrounded by all our friends and family.

What was your favorite moment?

Our favorite moment was probably the cocktail hour. We were supposed to take pictures beforehand and hide out so we could make a grand entrance to the reception, but we decided it was more important for us to spend time with our friends, family, and most important eat all the delicious food we picked out. We think all couples should break protocol and just focus on having a good time- it's what made our day so special.

Describe your wedding day.

Although we had many events with many moving parts, we would describe our wedding day as relaxed!

What is one piece of advice that you could give brides-to-be?

Relax and laugh! Everything falls into place, and the things that don't fall into place are funny stories for the future. At our wedding, a firework broke before our entrance, we couldn't figure out how to cut our cake, our fog machine went in the wrong direction, and we served a breakfast item on the wrong day! Not only did we just try to keep our cool, but those moments actually made us laugh throughout the weekend.

What's the #1 thing people should know about your wedding?

It was fun!
